The legs got stuck to each other. He realized that it was time for departure. There came the wakefulness of death, and pain was gone. He directed his eyes to the glass barrier through which his visitors would see him. He could not see her. He felt her eyes were stuck to the glass pane. He made a signal with his eyelids, and she received it.she caught sight of a smile beaming in his eyes. He was calling her to him in a haste. She hurried aimlessly looking for the intensive care doctor who realized the reason of her eagerness, so he escorted her to where he was lying surrounded with monitoring, follow-up and alert devices which were connected to him to pry on his organs performance.
She came closer to him. It seemed he was about to get up from his lying position. The respiratory system covered most of his face. Yet, she saw his smile with her heart. She bowed down to kiss his forehead and take his hand in hers. Coldness ran into his body parts which she could feel with her hands. Her eyes did not turn away from his. Minutes went by. His eyesight was getting hazy. Her heart flounced painfully. He was no longer with her. He seemed to be busy looking at the others. She saw nobody except the doctor and the nurse. She realized that his soul was being gently pulled away from him now. She put down his hand and started wavering her arms in the space around his body. She was trying to shoo away those whom she could not see.
The eyelids were closed and the body sagged. The alert signals came loud and the screen emissions went off. She threw herself on his chest and began sobbing. The alert signal subsided.
After the funeral and burial ceremonies had ended, she refused all the family offers for her to spend the night with them. She returned home instead, and hurried to his bedroom. She saw him sleeping in peace. As she did not want to disturb him, she lay on the ground and fell deep asleep.
